Came across something that made me do a double-take before going into a full-fledged head shake, followed by a guttural discharge of disgust.
The object of my ire this time came in the form of an Instagram post.
Really ... painful obviously in that context? Not painfully obvious? That's pod people-level common sense right there. Had to be a mistake. Just had to be.
So, believing it was just a typo, went and checked the story that sparked it ... only to be further flummoxed.
Convinced the coach must have misspoke, tracked down the post-game interview to confirm ... only to discover that, no, the story and the post were wrong. Steve Kerr, coach of the Golden State Warriors, longtime NBA player and middle-aged man with a degree from the University of Arizona with years spent in front of microphones, had, indeed, uttered things correctly.
Seriously, people ... has it really come to this, where the barely-able-to-shave, attention-span-starved, digital-based geniuses out there are determining (detonating, if you prefer) how we read, write and interpret things?
Be still my ever-lovin', grammar-followin', English language-supportin' heart – if medical issues are to be averted.
DigiKidz (hashtag optional), there is part of the nation that still relies on brain cells driven by knowledge instead of electrical impulses beholden to getting info as fast as possible regardless of it being right or wrong, and we beg of you: Please, PLEASE, pay attention for once – the phrase is “painfully obvious,” not “painful obviously.”
Steve Kerr stated it correctly. You heard it incorrectly, reported it incorrectly, edited it incorrectly, and to further discard editorial sanity, you had to graphic art it up on social media ... just to extend the bastardization of comprehension as far and as quickly as possible.
Geez, take a couple minutes to digest what you hear, read or see, remember lessons taught in school and, if you're not sure about things, ask what the actually saying is – and, if need be, it's meaning.
My favorite part of this massive screwup, aside from the facts that it makes Kerr look like a nitwit and that it will be glossed over as nothing, is that it is grammatically incorrect as written.
Yo, if you're gonna get it wrong, at least do something right with it – which, in this case, would have read: “It's painful, obviously, that our guys are mentally fried right now.”
Still not what the coach said, but at least it would have made sense then.
