The Sam Bradford lovefest in Philly has surpassed “outta hand” in short order. In less than two weeks of training camp, the gimpy one’s presence has fans and media talking about 12, 13 or 14 wins this season, his mythical growth, his magical accuracy, his lightning-quick decision-making skills and hair-trigger release to match.
The “greatest arm ever” status in Eagles lore that he has been bequeathed, though, is a tad too much to take, especially when you consider that the likes of Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb, Randall Cunningham and Ron Jaworski have suited up in the franchise’s green, be it Kelly or Midnight.
Vick, frankly, had the best arm these eyes have ever seen … and it wasn’t even close. Dan Marino. Brett Favre. John Elway. Aaron Rodgers. Nah, none of them could heave it like that whirling dervish of a shooting star – and he did it effortlessly, even when he was scrambling for his life.
Better quarterbacks, yes. Better arms, no way.
Bradford? Puh-leeeeze.
NEWS FLASH: Umpires rule the ball handed to Anthony Rizzo outside Wrigley Field Wednesday night was a catch, too.
HOT STUFF: Kinda hard to determine which MLB team is more en fuego right now (and apologies to Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann for the reference because I really can’t stand … them; never could), Rizzo’s Chicago Cubs or the Toronto Blue Jays.
With the entire Windy City getting the heebie jeebies at the prospect that this might just be its lovable losers’ year, meaning the end of all that moaning, Rizzo and Co. have rattled off 13 wins in their last 14 games, including a seventh straight Thursday afternoon. In doing so, they’ve shot up the NL wild-card standings and currently hold onto the second spot with a five-game cushion over San Francisco.
Toronto, meanwhile, just posted its 12th straight victory Thursday afternoon, proving so potent that it jumped right out of the AL wild-card standings and into first place in the AL East.
NEWS FLASH 2: Ronda Rousey proclaims that she can take Ivan Drago in a steel-cage match.
